Frequently asked questions

What does the IYLA tuition fee cover?

The IYLA tuition fee covers the processing fee, entrance to all venues, hotel accommodation, domestic transportation, all activities and events, all meals (except for lunch), program materials, and certificate. The fee does not include airfare or transportation to/from the airport.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes. While the processing fee is non-refundable, the remaining tuition is fully refundable until June 30 except the processing fee. From July 1-31, the tuition fee is half refundable. Starting in August, the fee is non-refundable and may be transferred to the program for the following year.

What is the deadline for payment?

Because IYLA is a highly competitive program, there are limited spaces available. The deadline for payment varies by country. Generally, IYLA accepts 5 delegates per country. Once 5 delegates have paid their tuition and confirmed their participation, the country deadline has been reached.

What is the application deadline?

The application for IYLA closes two weeks before the program commences. For IYLA 2019, the application will close on July 19, 2019.

When should I arrive and depart?

You are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. upon registration at 3pm EST. The program officially ends before lunch on the last day in New York. The bus will return to D.C. after 4pm EST. You can arrange a return ticket to and from DC around those time frames or organize your return from New York.

Can you help me with the visa process?

IYLA participants are responsible for obtaining a visa. Once the tuition fee has been processed, participants may request a visa letter provided by IYLA as supplemental material for their visa appointment with the consular officer.

What if I pay the fee and am not issued a visa?

The refund policy applies for issues related to visas. The program fee is fully refundable (except the $200 processing fee) during the month of June (June 1 - 30). The refundable fees may also be transferred for use in the program the following year. Without payment, we cannot provide a letter for visa sponsorship. Delegates are encouraged to apply to the program early in order to have sufficient time to obtain a visa.

What visa am I supposed to apply for?

IYLA delegates apply for a joint B1/B2 - business and travel for pleasure.

Does IYLA provide financial aid?

A limited number of partial scholarships are available through IYLA's co-conveners, under some conditions. Upon acceptance, delegates receive a comprehensive fundraising packet to highlight the ways in which they can raise funds and start a fundraising campaign. IYLA is working diligently to make sure that additional financial aid will be available in the future.
