Iyorwuese Hagher

Executive Director, African Leadership Institute USA

 

Ambassdor Iyorwuese Hagher is one of Africa’s leading contemporary thinkers on the transformational potential of leadership, education and art. He is the Founder and Executive Director of the African Leadership Institute USA, a workshop and laboratory to train Africa’s next generation of leaders. Prof. Hagher has served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador to Mexico and other countries of Central America, and as Member of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Member 1994-95 Constitutional Conference, and Minister of State Power and Steel and Minister of State Health Ministries in Nigeria.

 

He has been awarded one of Nigeria’s highest honors, Officer of the Order of the Niger, for his role in peace building in Nigeria, especially in negotiating for peace among the warring ethnic groups of Central Nigeria in 2003.    

 

Ambassador Hagher is also Professor of Theater for Development and formerly Chairman of the Theater and Communications Department of the University of Jos. He is a prolific writer, playwright and poet, and a leading voice in the use of cultural diplomacy for global peace.
