Arthur Kurup

 

Arthur was elected Youth Chief and Vice-President of the Sabah United People’s Party in 2012 after serving in the Party’s Youth Council for several years in charge of economic and education bureaus. In 2013, he was appointed as Member of the Supreme Council of the National Coalition Party, where he currently heads the Lab on middle class professionals and serves as a member of the Steering Committee, as well as National Vice-Chairman of the Youth Council.
Arthur’s professional qualifications are in law and economics. He graduated with a Bachelor and a Master of Laws specializing in International Trade from Bond University, Australia where he was on the Vice- Chancellor’s List of Academic Excellence. He then practiced as a corporate and commercial lawyer in Australia before graduating with a Master of International Economics and Finance from the University of Queensland with the Dean’s Commendation for High Achievement.
Arthur then moved to Geneva where he worked in the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), specializing in areas of customs tariffs and agricultural subsidies. At the WTO, he also served as a panelist for the National Taiwan University’s International Forum where he presented papers on the areas of competition laws and policies in international trade.
When he returned to Malaysia in 2008, Arthur worked in corporate finance where he was involved in cross- border mergers and acquisitions and advised on tariffs and debt restructuring. Arthur was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in the High Court of Borneo in 2010 where he practices in the areas of commercial and administrative law.
